Sep 26, 2016 How to Activate a Replacement Verizon Wireless Phone. When you receive a replacement device for a Verizon phone that was defective, lost, or damaged, the new device. I removed the pre-loaded SIM and replaced it with the SIM from my existing LTE device (original Droid Turbo), as instructed by the rep in the Verizon store. I got a 'Carrier Entitlement' notification asking me to activate the phone, which failed. The error messages said to make sure you have good signal, try again, contact support, etc. I tried a few more times with no success, then contacted support, first online chat, then phone. Both reps asked for the IMEI and MEID, then told me that they're coming up as invalid. After about 30 minutes of waiting on hold while the phone rep tried to research the issue, she came back and said that she'd call me. Fast forward 45 minutes, she calls (on an alternate line) to tell me that this is 'a known issue,' and that the technical support team can help, but that they are too busy tonight and not taking any calls since they're so backed up. She suggested I try again tomorrow or in a few days. I kept her on the line while I swapped the SIM back into my old phone (because, you know, I need at least something working), and of course that didn't work. I spent another 30 minutes on the phone with her while she tried again and again to 'push the activation through,' until it eventually worked. So, after several hours of troubleshooting, I'm right back where I started. Well, I'm a little grumpier. Edit: Waited until morning, called technical support. Spoke to someone who told me, 'I activate unlocked phones all the time by adding the IMEI to our database, but my system is telling me that it will not add this one. You're just going to have to return it to Google.' I'm getting the same issue that described. Only I bought mine from verizon, and they seem to suggest that I should keep the new SIM card in it and transfer the number. Same 'Carrier Entitlement' error though. I got slightly farther than last night, as it asked me for the last 4 digits of the account owner's social, which was different, but it then just put me back into the 'Carrier Entitlement' error loop. If anyone's made headway, please let us know. I'm gonna call support on my lunch break. I'm one of those with the grandfathered unlimited data plans and spent two hours at the Verizon store last night trying to activate my Google Store purchased Pixel XL. I didn't have a nano sim for it coming from my previous micro-sim-toting device, so when the guy at the store tried to add the new nano sim to my account (the process seemed to identify my NON-VZW Pixel XL IMEI number successfully), he got an error message saying the device is not compatible with my plan. After saying I wouldn't switch, he called the tech support the stores are privy to. The very nice woman on the line got the same message, and said she'd do some digging and call me back. I got a call back an hour later saying that she escalated my issue to their operations management team, and I should expect a response back from them in 1 to 2 weeks. So, now I'm in a holding pattern with a Wifi-only Pixel XL.
